These 5 hacks each take 5 minutes or less to do and make a big difference in our home. They prove to me that it's the little things... the extra minute of planning ahead, the 30 seconds of time doing it right the first time, the intention, that makes the difference for living a Reset Life.
Hack 1: Pink Pong Paddles
Corral ping pong paddles and balls in a cute basket that can be left on the floor. This has been great for creating a system that kids and friends can get on board with. Easy, accessible, and cute storage. This same principle applies to ANYTHING. Does it never get put away? Does it not have a home? Get a cute basket and contain whatever it is that is causing a problem in keeping an area tidy.
Hack 2: Hanging Pictures
How I get my pictures to always hang level. Once I hang my pictures I use a small piece of self-stick bumpers or museum gel and put it behind the corners of my pictures. This way, if the corner gets bumped, it won't budge.
Hack 3: Garbage Bags
Keep extra garbage sacks in the bottom of the bathroom and kitchen garbage cans. You might not be able to put an entire Costco sized roll of kitchen garbage sacks at the bottom of your trash can, but you can easily put 10-15 and not notice a difference. With bathroom trash cans, I just put the entire roll of small sacks at the bottom. Then when kids are emptying out the trash there is no excuse for not replacing the liner right away.
Hack 4: Touch It Once Rule
Are you getting dressed for the day? Instead of putting your PJs on the floor... touch it once and put them immediately where they need to go. Did you just bring the mail in? Don't set it down... sort through it immediately and throw the 90% of items that need to go in the trash, open the rest, and put items that need to be kept into your action basket. Looking for an outfit and see that one shirt you know you never wear? Keep a container dedicated to set aside clothing and items to donate. It takes less than 60 seconds to put things where they need to go and saves so much time in the long run.
Hack 5: Cleaning Supplies
Keep cleaning supplies under each bathroom sink. I keep it simple. I have a small hook on the inside of each bathroom cabinet. A window cloth and a normal cleaning cloth hang there. It makes staying on top of the bathrooms super easy. When the mirror, sink, and counter stay clean in less than a minute of work a day... cleaning the other parts of the bathroom feels less daunting.
I hope these help! I truly believe that it's the little things. The habits, the intention, the baby steps that help create a life that is organized, calm, and clutter free. Let me know if you try any of these and how they help you!
